Following last year's successful pilot event, The Fling - a festival of assorted amusements - will be returning to Chelmsford this summer.
On Saturday 4th July, Central Park will come to life with a village of tented areas, each filled with entertainment more tantalising than the last, and all aimed at those aged over 18.
At least five performance stages will be satisfying ears, souls and
toes with the delights of music, cabaret, comedy, wordsmiths and exotic
dance from 4.00pm through to 11.00pm. The music stage will be hosted by
barhouse and will provide an eclectic mix of bands from our town's
ever-growing music scene. The Comedy Club Ltd., who although taking
over the country with their top quality entertainment are actually
based in Chelmsford, will no doubt have everyone laughing their socks
off before tapping their toes over at the 'exotic dance' tent. What’s
more, wordsmiths will travel from all corners of the East of England to
perform at The Fling 2009, as their stage, curated by the programmer of
London's 14 Hour and Chelmsford's Howl, will be filled with words
manipulated to both amuse and bemuse.
Domes, teepees, colourful marquees and a giant sand pit (see above)
will also fight for attention, enticing people inside with tall tales,
cheeky cabaret, crafty treats, a silent disco, opportunities to build
sandcastle towns, or simply to purchase a beloved pint of beer.
The Fling is an opportunity to put on your glad rags and join in with a
completely new approach to entertainment in the area - something
bespoke for Essex, not just Chelmsford.
Updated information about the 2009 line-up is available online at
