What an excellent example of hypocrisy and media hype! It seems poor Andrew Sachs  may be about to get a lot more attention than he ever deserved off the back of the Brand/Ross Radio2 screw up. Georgina Baillie may be a victim within the events that have unfolded, but she is certainly not adverse to creating her own controversy.

 

Voluptua's (her stage name) 'outrage' at the radio show would suggest she is fairly prudish for someone involved in a burlesque group called 'Satanic Sluts.' Whilst there is no doubt that swearing down someone's answer phone and suggesting that she is one of Brand's conquests was, even for Jonathan Ross, a step too far there still seems to be an evident lack of media focus that this was a pre-recorded show and the editors of the show could not have passed this content as suitable for families without realising the media circus that would ensue.

There are on average 400 000 listeners for Russell Brands show on Radio 2 and after this programme was aired they received only 2 complaints. Radio 1 were at the forefront of publicising this news every hour on the hour and combined with tabloid interest the complaints have now soared to over 27,000 off the back of Radio 1's hype. How many of those complaining heard the original broadcast and how many have deliberately sought it out to listen to so they can be horrified by the contents?

 

Quite why the Government have issued statements on this fiasco is perplexing me. Haven't the Government got slightly more pressing issues at the moment?

I can't help but think that 'Wossy' has been stitched up by someone further up in the BBC. It will no doubt do wonders for Russell Brand's career as a 'free speaking' and rebellious comedian. Jonathan Ross however may not be so fortunate - whilst he is known for being cheeky he is still tv 'establishment 'and his audience will almost certainly see this as a gross misjudgement of error (his contract is also coming up for renewal at the beeb).

Quite what Georgina Baillie's grandfather will make of her 15 minutes of fame will remain to be seen unless he already knew of Georgina's somewhat leftfield antics!
