What a cracking movie.
Who wouldn’t want to take a drug that allows you to access the ‘other 80%‘ of your brain? And it’s the feeling, options and doors that subsequently open that are such a turn-on for Eddie Morra (Bradley Cooper), not to mention the chance of winning back his girlfriend, Lindy (Abbie Cornish).
Only his ‘supplier’, Vernon, gets murdered whilst Eddie is out collecting his dry cleaning.
Hmmmmm, not good. Fortunately, Eddie finds Vern’s stash hidden in the oven of his ransacked apartment (so someone else is presumably after the drugs as well then?) along with a wad of cash, so uses both to turn his life around. Eddie quickly finishes the book he’d never actually started writing before focussing his attention on trading stocks, something he’d never previously contemplated – but hey, with the drugs in his system, anything’s possible.
And, very soon, Eddie is rich beyond his wildest dreams.
Meanwhile, The Edge is thinking, “Gimmi those drugs! Gimmi those drugs!” But as with all such matters of this nature, there’s always a downside, and in this particular case, it’s death if you attempt to go cold turkey.
Limitless is a slick, feel good – nay, feel brilliant – movie, also starring Robert De Niro as Carl Van Loon who employs Eddie for a short period, but warns him (and get this, readers), “For you to even think of moving on only shows me how unprepared you are to go it alone. You’re as freak alright, and your deduc- tive powers are a gift from God. But they’re a gift, not earned. You don’t know what I know because you haven’t earned those powers. You’re careless with them and you flaunt them and you throw them around like a brat with a Trust Fund. You haven’t had to climb up all the greasy rungs. You haven’t done the time. You think you can leap over all in one single bound. You haven’t had to bribe or charm or threat your way to a seat at the big table. You don’t know how to assess your competition because you’ve never competed. So don’t you go making me your competition, Eddie.”
