Its not even the drinking is it, we can all drink at home, it’s certainly not the food, the pubs that I frequent do not serve up Michelin Star grub, far from it in fact. Fine dining in the pubs that I drink in consists of Tyrrell’s crisps behind the bar rather than Walkers.
It’s certainly not the exhorbient cost of buying a round of beers these days either. I don’t miss coming home a hundred quid light and with enough small change in my pocket to sink a battleship!
It’s the company innit? The craic with your mates. Sharing a keg of beer with my buddies, guys I’ve known since I was at school. Bumping into strangers at the bar and talking to them for no other reason than you both have a beer in your hand. The sticky tables and ragged beer mats. The banter! I miss all of that.
Come on Boris let’s get the pubs open, we know how to behave, we will continue to observe social distancing if you give us the pub gardens and the pavements too.
Ahhhh I can taste my first pint of cold San Miguel, in the proper glass of course.
