How lucky are we to have Hylands Park?

Chelmsford is truly blessed to have this jewel in the crown and credit to Chelmsford City Council for the high standard of upkeep.

In these Covid-19 times, it’s also so easy to wander around the park and maintain distance from the other users because it really is so vast.

The 574 acres of parkland designed by Humphrey Repton and the 300 year old house are a delight but my favourite is the old spooky cottage. That used to terrify me as a kid and it still does now if I linger around it. I’ve noticed that my step quickens up as I pass it! What a big girls blouse!

One complaint tho, the public toilets should’ve stayed shut until after Corvid-19 has been beaten. Or better still demolished. Jeez, they are shameful, all the money the council spend on the park and they can’t keep them clean. Truly shocking.

But don’t let that put you off, shit in the woods and visit the magnificent Hylands Estate.

  1. “Chelmsford City Borough Council???”
How long did you say you’ve lived here? You can’t have it all ways.
It’s Chelmsford City Council (CCC) these days, Deaks.
And I have to disagree. Wandering or cycling through Bell Meadow & Admirals Park ‘does it for me’ so much more (and hey, the Book of Rules post Covid-19 is that there is NO ‘Book of Rules’… everyone’s allowed their own opinion). I just think they’re far quainter and prettier.
What’s more, I also think Hylands Park was a great venue for BIG festivals, but in previous years, The Fling has been absolutely wasted there, due to the fact that it’s not an intimate enough setting.
But we’re all different and different people like different things, and that’s the way it is.

  2. I’ve no idea what you are talking about mate? Have you been drinking EdgeEd? Chelmsford City Council aye?

Opinions, like arseholes, we all have one!

  3. Why haven’t you got any idea what I’m talking about?
I’ve expressed my opinion as plain as daylight.
P.S. Extraordinary how you’ve managed the use of commas in the final line of your reply, yet not in your previous 3 sentences.
